Silence is disconcerting

it tells us all wildlife has taken flight

or cover

crickets provide natures comfort

the shrill chirp from a million unseen wings

tells us all is at peace

I have faced the sociopath

the one that held me captive

she that would scream and bite

now, she looks unsure

her face

perhaps tinged with regret

when by chance our paths cross

I have challenged the social justice hypocrites

to defend their double standards

or explain their warped narrative

I strain my ears

awaiting a retort, from either noisy beast

only to be reward

a symphony of clacking crickets
