The Unicorn Hunter

The childhood fleeting glance

so vivid it could not have been a dream

had driven him ever onward

for three long year

A beast pure white

seen through thicket and thistle

a horse both gentle and wild

that was not a horse

Through marsh and mire

forest so dense it blocked the sun

across raging rapids

he followed the slightest sign

The inhabitants of remote settlements

told him he would have better luck

chasing dragons breath

and yet he believed

He stood mesmerised in the clearing

silently waiting acceptance

fearing his fast beating heart would startle

the unicorn trotting toward him
